COVID-19 Support Fund

The South Australian Government has introduced a support package for businesses impacted by the health restrictions put in place from 27 December 2021. A summary of these support grants are outlined below.

Tourism, Hospitality and Gym Grant – Automatic Payment

Automatically paid to businesses that received previous COVID-19 Tourism and Hospitality Support Grant and Gym operators that received Additional COVID-19 Business Support Grant.

  • $3,000 for employing businesses
  • $1,000 for non-employing businesses
  • $1,000 additional for CBD businesses
  • $7,000 additional for tourism and hospitality businesses with turnover above $2 million

Businesses eligible for the automatic payment must be in one of the eligible ANZSIC codes found here 

Standard criteria for all the Grants:

  • Registered for GST
  • Located/operating within South Australia, have a valid and active ABN.
  • Australia-wide grouped payroll was less than $10 million in the 2019-20 or 2020-21 financial year.

Tourism, Hospitality and Gym Grant – Additonal

Employing and non-employing businesses that fall within the eligible ANZSIC classication codes required to operate under the 1 person per 7 square metre density restriction are able to apply for this grant.

  • $3,000 for employing businesses
  • $1,000 for non-employing businesses
  • $1,000 additional for CBD businesses
  • $7,000 additional for tourism and hospitality businesses with turnover above $2 million

Businesses that have not received the automatic grant can still be eligible to apply after 10th January 2021.  For a successful application, the following criteria must be met:

  • At least 30% reduction in turnover compared to 2 weeks from 27 December 2021 to 9 January 2022 compared to:
    • the two weeks from 27 December 2019 to 9 January 2020 for businesses actively trading in 2019/2020; OR
    • the two weeks from 27 December 2020 to 9 January 2021 for businesses not actively trading in 2019/2020.

Business Hardship Grant

  • $6,000 for employing businesses
  • $2,000 for non-employing businesses
  • $2,000 additional for CBD businesses

Businesses that have experienced a reduction in turnover of at least 50% for the consective two-week period when compared to the same two-week period (ie; 27 December to 9 January) in 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 for businesses who do not have a trading history in 2019/2020.

Businesses will not be eligible to receive the Grant if they have received support under any of the other Grants launched on and after 27 December 2021.

Major Events Grant

  • Up to $100,000 for organiser of cancelled or postponed major public events

Major public event organisers are eligible to apply provided they meet ALL the following criteria as at 12.01am on 27 December 2021:

  • Be the organiser/operator of an event scheduled over the period from 27 December 2021 to 27 January 2022 which was required to be cancelled or postponed as a result of the COVID-19 health and trading restrictions that came into effect from 27 December 2021.
  • The event was a one-off event with an SA Health approved COVID management plan or COVID-Safe Plan catering for an event of over 1,000 combined capacity in one or across multiple locations.
    • Entities for regularly scheduled events (regular sporting events for example) are not eligible.
    • Where an event was scheduled to be held over mutliple days, the applicant must provide evidence that combined attendance over the entire period was expected to exceed 1,000.
    • Where an event was scheduled to be held at multiple venues, with expected combined attendance of over 1,000.
    • Where an event is part of an ‘umbrella festival’ or similar, the individual event that sits under an ‘umbrella festival’ must provide evidence that the individual event had an expected attendance of over 1,000 to be eligible.
  • Have incurred a non-recoverable financial loss as a result of the cancellation or postponement or the event.

Applications for the above grants open on 10th January 2021 and will be closed on 31st March 2022.
